For Christmas music this is probably in my top two or three favorite albums. Not a lot of commonly-found recordings; gorgeous examples like Booker T. and the MGs "Silver Bells" (instantly my favorite version of all time of this song); breadth of presentation all the way from Luther Vandross to Clarence Carter (probably the only time that these /5(61).

Jan 01,  · Editors’ Notes Christmas doesn’t get more soulful than this collection of tunes dominated by R&B titans from the Stax/Atlantic roster of the ‘60s and ‘70s. It may well be up for debate whether this two-disc set is really the best Christmas album ever, but it does include some undisputed holiday classics like Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song," as well as rock-era favorites like Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick," and Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmas.
